‘The new vehicle will meet the challenges thrown by heavy urban traffic’

The Bajaj Auto Pulsar 135LS vehicle was launched at a glittering programme in Vijayawada on Sunday amidst a dance performance by artists to suit the mood of the occasion.

The first launch of this initial version was stated to be in 2001 and the latest came out with added features to win the favour of customers.

Equipped with a light-weight yet rigid frame and aided by Nitrox shock absorbers, the new vehicle from the Bajaj Auto would meet the challenges of traffic thrown by urban heavy traffic, said Bajaj officials.

Addressing a press conference on the occasion, Bajaj Regional Manager Sadanand Swamy said that with the addition of the latest version, the company went another step ahead in enhancing the pleasure of biking to the customers.

A first

He said that the light sports vehicle was the first of its kind bike being introduced for the first time in the country.

It has got the state of the art 4-valve DTS-I engine which delivers 13.5 ps power.

Company’s vision

Mr. Swamy said that the Pulsar brand is strongly associated with the sports segment in this country and the company’s vision is to make India a country of bikers from a country of commuters.

He said that the bike will be manufactured from the Chakan Plant and will have a capacity of 35,000 bikes per month. The price of Pulsar 135LS is Rs. 52,025 ex-showroom.

In the present days, competing with time is considered to be the most common criteria. The same goes on with the context of high speeds of the newly emerging bikes. The 2-wheeler segment based companies are moving forward accordingly and are also considering the tastes and craze of the present youth as the main criteria.

Keeping the views on trends of the current generation youth, "Hero Honda", one of the largest 2-wheeler manufacturer in India, has at last unveiled its new Karizma(FI)-ZMR into the market.

The routine carburetor has been replaced with the fuel injection technology, which is shortly called as the FI. This bike can achieve a speed of about 0-60kmph just in 3.7 seconds. This is because of its "Spark plug Transistorized Ignition System".

The ZMR has undergone many changes when compared with its prior model, Karizma-R. Both the wheels are having Disk brakes. The Kick start option has been deceased and is only available in "self start". The old Air-cooled engine has been replaced with the Oil-cooled engine. Finally, this lead to the increase in the weight of the bike.

The IGRS shock absorbers are considered to be one of the peaks in the technical aspects of the bike, and also can be adjustible.

While the Hunk, and CBZ-Xtreme reviels 13.15 KW (17.6 bhp/17.9ps) of power at 8500 RPM, the new Karizma can achieve such at 7000 RPM itself. Thus, the engine life factor is 1.59, which is said to be greater than the counterparts in Hero Honda. Hunk and Xtreme are having only 1.29 as their life factor. Achiever is having 1.37.

Karizma-ZMR is available in 5 variant colors. They are Moon yellow, Pearl white, Vibrant blue, Panther black and Sports red. Its Ex-showroom prize is approx.. Rs.91000/-.

Hero Honda HUNK

The Hunk is an absolute doodle to ride in the chaotic Pune traffic, being extremely maneuverable and at the same time having more than enough grunt for quick sprints around town. The gas filled shocks take care of most of the ruts and bumps offering a pliant and comfortable ride while not compromising on the handling one bit. Infact I was so in love with the handling that I decided to do a Pune-Mumbai ride to exploit the bikes amazing characteristics. And what a blast it was. The refined engine felt absolutely smooth even when ridden towards it redline on the open highways. Even the twisties were dispatched with absolute ease with the Hunk proving its worthy credentials. The braking too was spot on with more than adequate bite from the disc upfront providing oodles of confidence during high speed blasts.

All has not been 'Hunky-Dory' though with a few flaws surfacing with time. The headlight beam is barely adequate around town and becomes worse on highways. A more powerful bulb should fix that problem though. The gearbox at times feels clunky and quick shifts require quite a bit of effort. The chain too requires constant attention since it becomes loose pretty quickly. Mileage borders around 40 kmpl which is on the lower side for a 150 cc bike. Other than these minor niggles the Hunk's going about its duty mighty fine. The bike has logged 3290 km since its arrival in the Zigwheels garage and I am looking forward to put many more kilometers on its odo.
